This Sunday begins the Advent season – a time set aside in the life of the Church to draw us deeper into the theological meaning of Christmas and help us to stay focused on the reason for the season. It occurs to me that if there ever was a time to slow down, reflect, and open ourselves to the wonder of Christ’s birth, it is now. Would it not be the saddest thing of all to miss him amid all the noise and clutter of our world, work, meetings, end of year obligations, shopping, decorating, travel, family gatherings, meals to prepare, parties to attend, on and on and on.
At PAUMC, we will be reading the ancient texts, singing carols, and lighting candles in worship. This Sunday, we’ll baptize a beautiful baby boy and welcome another member into our fold. On December 9th, our choir will present the Christmas concert during the 11 o’clock service – all are welcome! The children will perform a pageant written especially for them on December 16th and on Christmas Eve, we’ll have the 4 o’clock family service and 7:00 p.m. candlelight service with Holy Communion.
Also starting Monday, you will receive a daily reflection written by our staff that will give you a glimpse into the heart of each person. As before, these reflections are beautifully and faithfully written and I hope you will receive them in the generous spirit that they are offered:
- Isaiah Fish, Ministry Associate
- Liz Sweeney, Director of Programs for Children and Families
- Derrick Byars, Director of Minister and Organist
- Nicole Serra, Administrative Assistant
- Valerie Kilbridge, Business Manager
- Molly DeGesero, Director of Park Avenue Methodist Day School
- Presley Rodriguez, PAMDS Administrative Assistant
It would be a joy to have you join us throughout this holy Advent season as we behold the mystery of God becoming human and dwelling among us. O Come, O come, Emmanuel!
Grace and peace,
