One of the hymns we sang in worship last Sunday was Great Is Thy Faithfulness.  It is a favorite of mine and was written by Thomas O. Chisholm, who was a school teacher and ordained Methodist minister for a brief time.

The hymn speaks of God’s unwavering love and care: “…morning by morning new mercies I see; all I have needed thy hands have provided; great is thy faithfulness Lord unto me!”

Can you imagine awakening each new day with this kind of hopefulness regardless of the circumstances that might come our way?

Shortly before his death in 1960, Chisholm wrote:

My income has never been large at any time due to impaired health in the earlier years which has followed me on until now.  But I must not fail to record here the unfailing faithfulness of a covenant keeping God and that [He] has given me many wonderful displays of [His] providing care which have filled me with astonishing gratefulness.

Perhaps this hymn will become a prayer of thanksgiving for you as well:  strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow – blessings all mine, with then thousand beside.  Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!”

Grace and peace,
Pastor Cathy

P.S.  If you were not able to attend worship last Sunday I encourage you to click here to read Isaiah Fish’s sermon on “ Breaking Silence.”  It was as fine a sermon as I have ever heard.
