“Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” – Matthew 25: 40
At Park Avenue UMC we take very seriously the command that Jesus gave to love our neighbors as ourselves. To fulfill this commandment, our community is involved in numerous outreach and mission projects throughout the year.
These outreach opportunities influence our immediate church, support our surrounding community, interact with our global United Methodist Church and provide long-term connections for all ages.
Saturday Community Lunch Program
Saturday Community Lunch Program (SCLP) is a 20+ year partnership between PAUMC and other religious communities on the Upper East Side to serve a nutritious meal to our neighbors in need. All are welcome to join us as we prepare and serve a meal to our neighbors who are hungry. Cooking begins at 11am. The meal is served at 1pm and the shift is done by 4pm. First Saturday of Every Month.
Thanksgiving Pie Day
PAUMC has partnered with Project Rosseau to host the annual “Pie Day” in Clarke Hall on Saturday, November 18th. Volunteers bake pies for the homeless before Thanksgiving. To sign up, contact the church office.
Annual Rummage Sales
PAUMC hosts 2 rummage sales, one in the spring and one in the fall. Donations are excepted throughout the year (no books, please).
Christmas Cards for the Incarcerated
Please join us on Sunday, December 3rd during coffee hour to create Christmas cards for incarcerated individuals. The New York Annual Conference will be distributing them to appropriate prison chaplains. We will supply cards and markers; you provide the good wishes.
New York Common Pantry Turkey Drive
Each year PAUMC teams up with the New York Common Pantry to provide meals to families in need on Thanksgiving. Each year we have the goal of feeding 150 families. $40 will buy the turkey and most of the trimmings for a family of four.
During November, we get Christmas wishes from children who may not receive gifts otherwise. Each wish is about $40 per child. Gifts are due at the end of November and we then wrap and deliver them the first week of December.
Winter Coat Drive
The Church and Day School join together to collect gently used jackets and coats for NY Cares. Our church is a donation site for this city-wide coat drive. All sizes are welcome!
Help us collect warm winter accessories for The Bowery Mission. Clean, gently used (or brand new) hats, scarves, gloves and mittens can be pinned to the tree every Sunday during Advent. Adult sizes especially needed.
Larry Morales Toy Drive
Named in honor of longtime member Larry Morales, our annual toy drive sends new, un-wrapped gifts to the New York Common Pantry.
Each Easter season, PAUMC makes Easter Baskets for the New York Common Pantry.
Camp Olmsted Clean Up Day
Join PAUMC as we help beautify and prepare Camp Olmsted, an organization that aims to provide a fun summer camp experience to all NYC children.
