Ordinarily, I would be at Annual Conference this week, Thursday through Sunday. Instead, our presiding Bishop Thomas J. Bickerton has encouraged all clergy and church staff to take these days as a much-needed break, for which I am grateful. This Sunday’s worship will be led by the New York Annual Conference staff and lay members. It is a lovely service and I hope you will not miss it.
Isaiah and I, along with other United Methodist clergy within the Metropolitan District, have signed a statement written to the Committee on Public Safety of the New York City Council in support of the protests against police brutality and in support of new legislation to criminalize violent police behavior and put into place new accountability requirements. You can read this statement on our website here.
Grace and peace,
