I am not good at carrying myself. I can go a short distance on hard work, intellect, training, and experience – at least that’s what I tell myself. But the truth is there are times when I can barely go a single step on my own, especially when faced with challenging situations that seem overwhelming. There are just some things that are beyond my capacity, even on my best day.
“Show me the way, O Christ; it’s in your hands,” is what I find myself praying more often than not these days. “Show me your way; I’m in your hands.” This simple prayer and these moments of surrender, hope, and trust allow me to make room for and rely upon the One who knows all and loves all. It frees my mind and spirit so that I can breathe, rest, and be guided by wisdom, discernment, and grace assured that things will work out somehow and most likely as they should.
Today, I am reminding myself and you dear friend of this truth: You and I are being held in the beautifully scared hands of a loving Christ who bore all for our sake. And His promises are sure: He will never leave us nor forsake us, regardless of how things might appear. Thanks be to God. Amen.
Grace and peace,
