Prayer of the Month
You are invited to pray these prayers written by Pastor Cathy throughout the month.
Come, Holy Spirit, come, and breathe on us. Interpret the signs of this time that are calling to us and make plain what we are to be doing. Give us renewed hope and greater determination to love as you love and work for justice and the common good of all. When we grow weary, renew our strength. When we lose our way, redirect our path. When we are afraid, assure us that we never walk alone, for you are with us always. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayers. Amen.
God of Resurrection, you are the living hope of the world and joy of every believer. Breathe new life upon us all and especially on those who live in the shadow of the cross suffering persecution, rejection, sickness, oppression, and grief in any way. Give us faith that leads to hope; hope that leads to love and love that leads to transformation so that your world is made better in us and through us. Amen.
Holy God, we often fill our days with so much busy-ness that we hardly have time to slow down, breathe, and simply be. In the midst of anxiety, fear, disappointment, and suffering, we try to go our own way, shutting you out. Forgive our shortsightedness, and reassure us that you are ever present to lead and guide our way. As we walk these days of Lent, help us to be mindful and purposeful, always on the lookout for angels who come to tend our soul. Amen.
Loving God, sometimes the toils of life seem more than we can bear, sorrows run deep, and there is uncertainty all around. Help us to acknowledge our fears and anxieties for what they are and hear your invitation to “Come. Follow. Rest.” Grant us courage to walk the lonesome days of Lent assured of your presence and trusting that even the darkest day is followed by the glowing hope of tomorrow’s sun. Amen.
Loving God, thank you for the gift of another year, new opportunities, and fresh starts. Like every year, we have no idea of what it will bring, but our hope remains in your steadfast love. Forgive past sins and heal old wounds so that we might walk in freedom and with courage as your agents of healing and grace in the world. Help us to hear your voice and be led by your Spirit. Amen.
Loving God, thank you for entering our story through Jesus Christ. Grant that during these dark days, we might see your light shining in on us renewing our faith and giving hope, love, joy, and peace. Give us a sense of awe and wonder at what is holy being born in our midst. O come, O come, Emmanuel. Amen.
Loving God, you alone are the source of our strength, our life, our joy. You are ever present through people, places, and things, even through strangers, disappointments, failures, and anxieties. Nothing separates us from your love; everything binds us closer. Breathe on us and speak gently to every heart. Teach us to live each day with hope and gratitude. Amen.
Lord God, we are often overwhelmed by anxiety, fear, and disappointment. At times, it seems like the winds and waves of life will utterly destroy us and everything in our path. Remind us all that you still speak to the storms: “Peace be still.” Calm our weary souls and give us the faith to trust your steadfast presence. Amen.
Dear Lord, as we turn our attention to the start of another school year, we pray for every student regardless of age, teachers, administrators, and parents. Remind us all of the joy of learning, growing, and maturing into the person you have destined us to be. Let nothing stand in the way. Fill our hearts with awe and excitement about the possibilities that lie ahead. Amen.
Lord Christ, you awaken faith amid our doubts and fears. You reveal your presence in ways that are often unexpected so that we might recognize your power at work. Bless all who seek your love and may they find strength to persevere in faith through all of life’s circumstances. Help them to see themselves as you do: beautiful, whole, forgiven, and loved. Amen.
Loving God, Creator and Sustainer of us all. As our city and nation turns to reopening after so much time, help us to be mindful of those who are still at risk of the COVID-19 pandemic and all pandemics that cause people to live under oppression, threat, ignorance, and indifference. Be with us these days of summer and awaken us to the warmth of your grace. Grant quiet moments of rest, reflection, and renewal, and then give us courage to rise to accomplish your purposes in the world. May we not be silent. Amen
Come, Holy Spirit, come, and breathe on us with fresh wind. Interpret the signs of this time that are calling to us, and make plain what we are to be doing. Give us renewed hope and greater determination to love those whom you love and work for justice and the common good of all. When we grow weary, give us strength. When we lose our way, direct our path. When we are afraid, assure us that we never walk alone for you are with us always. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayers. Amen.
Loving God, you often appear to us in a still small voice so calm and gentle that we miss you amid the anxieties and fears that fill our days. Grant us ears to hear, eyes to see, and a heart to receive all that you wish to offer us this day. Affirm our hope in the power of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, that as he was raised, so may we also be raised. As he lives, may we also live. Bless your children everywhere and renew our strength by the presence of the Holy Spirit who dwells within. Amen
