I am writing a quick note to ask your prayers for my family. I arrived in North Carolina yesterday for the funeral of my niece, Rachel, who passed away unexpectedly last week. She was a lovely young woman of 33 years and will be sorely missed.
Like others, we have known a lot of death in our family but somehow, this one seems “different”. Each one is of course, but I’m pretty sure, there is also a cumulative effect of so much grief and loss, especially this past year. I’ll be sitting with my thoughts and feelings about it for sure, but in this moment, I am grateful to be here. To hold this time and space with my family and to feel your love and support. Thank you for that.
I’ll be back on Sunday to celebrate the Reverend Dr. Denise Smartt Sear’s service as our District Superintendent the past 8 years in the afternoon, to officiate Helen Bai’s wedding next Thursday, baptize Nichola and Peter Gray’s beautiful baby, Louis (our 4th beautiful baby baptism within the past week) on Saturday, and Pentecost on Sunday.
And then, SABBATICAL! More details about that next week.
Grace and peace,
